Sodium thiosulphate is routinely used for dechlorinating water and water holding vessels that have been disinfected by shock chlorination. Normally it is best to dissolve the chemical before use; measure the quantity required and dissolve in water before use. A microwave can be used to gently heat the water and use a plastic stirrer or spoon to aid completely dissolve the chemical.
